Photochromic Lenses: How do they work?

Transitions lenses, light adapting lenses, light reactive lenses or variable tint lenses are technically termed photochromic lenses (new terminology) or photochromatic lenses (old terminology).

 What do they do?

THEY ARE CLEAR READERS INDOOR + SUN READERS OUTDOORS.

Photochromic lenses automatically adjust to the sun’s brightness, showing lens darkening within a matter of seconds reaching its full darkened state in about 10 minutes, changing back to its clear state in the first 2 minutes to achieve full clarity within 5 minutes.

This means that your eyes are as comfortable in the bright sun as they are on a cloudy day because the lens darkens responsive to the sun's brightness. Our photochromic lenses are gray in color, the best for enhancing protection and contrast with comfort and true color representation.

Indoors, away from UV activating light, your lenses will be clear with anti-glare and blue light blocking properties to give you hours of sharp, comfortable, and protective computer reading.

ONE PAIR CONVENIENCE : for a life where reading moves with you.

Pairing our premium anti-glare and blue light blocking lens treatments makes our photochromic readers excellent for eliminating glare when reading outdoors and also when reading indoors at any of your digital devices, ours are unmatched in quality, performance and value.

What you should also know:

Photochromic lenses do not darken in a car as windshield blocks UV activating rays that cause the lenses to darken.

On cold days the activation time is a little bit slower than on warm days.

As with all lenses, do not use household cleaners on your lenses, as they will deteriorate the lens properties. Use lens sprays specific to eyeglasses or mild soap and water and wipe with your microfiber cloth.

Photochromic lenses received their first patent in the 1960's. The activation and protective properties are much more advanced since then and the application today as to how we read, work and live is so much more relevant.
